Senior COBOL Software Engineer Location: Brussels (Hybrid) Languages: Fluent Dutch and English (C1) About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior COBOL Software Engineer to join a team responsible for developing and maintaining mission-critical mainframe applications. You will play a key role in the analysis, design, development, testing, and support of backend systems while collaborating closely with both business and IT stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to work in a complex, international environment where reliability, quality, and continuous improvement are essential. Requirements Mandatory • Minimum 5 years of experience in COBOL development. • Strong experience in mainframe environments. • Good knowledge of COBOL, PL/1, EGL, and DB2. • Experience with IBM IDz Workbench. • Experience with CI/CD processes, GitHub, and Changeman. • Ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical solutions. • Experience creating and executing test cases. • Experience with application maintenance, incident resolution, and defect management. • Experience performing code reviews and ensuring development quality standards. • Knowledge of integration testing and interfacing applications. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop backend applications in a mainframe environment. • Create program structures based on technical designs. • Develop, execute, and maintain test cases. • Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards. • Resolve incidents and defects and follow them through to closure. • Execute technical integration testing with interfacing applications. • Update technical and design documentation when required. • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions. • Participate in production support and on-call activities when needed.
